Plenty of dogs want two things from a bed: room to sprawl and something to lean on. This one gives them both. A wide, flat sleeping area lets them stretch right out on their side, and a thick, round bolster runs along the edge so they can rest their chin, press their back against it or curl up into the corner. The open side sits low, so older dogs and puppies can walk straight on.

The whole bed is wrapped in long, shaggy faux fur with frosted tips, over a soft padded base that keeps them up off cold floorboards and tiles in winter. It comes in six sizes, from a 55 cm bed for cats and toy breeds up to a 150 cm bed big enough for a large dog to stretch out fully, and in four colours to suit your lounge.

Measure your dog lying stretched out on their side, from the nose to the base of the tail, and add about 15 cm. Pick the size whose length is at least that long. As a rough guide: XS 55 cm suits cats and toy breeds, S 65 cm small dogs, M 80 cm small to medium dogs, L 100 cm medium dogs such as a border collie, XL 120 cm medium to large dogs, and XXL 150 cm large breeds like a labrador or retriever that like to sprawl.

Shake or vacuum off loose hair first. Hand wash in cool water, or use a gentle cold cycle if your machine is big enough for the size you have, with no bleach. Air dry it fully before your pet uses it again, then give the fur a shake or a light brush so it fluffs back up.

It is vacuum packed so it travels well. Take it out of the bag, give it a good shake, plump up the bolster and leave it for a day or two. It will puff back up to its full shape.
