Some dogs and cats never sleep in the open. They burrow under the duvet, tuck into the back of the couch or curl up in the washing basket. This cave bed gives them that tucked-in spot of their own. A soft hood arches over the back of the bed and leaves a wide front opening, so your pet can sleep hidden away under the cover, lie with their chin on the front rim, or stretch out on top when they want to.

The outside is long, shaggy faux fur, and the inside of the hood, the opening and the base cushion are lined with soft, short cream plush. A plump fibre-filled rim runs all the way round for leaning into, and the non-slip base helps the bed stay put on floorboards and tiles. The whole bed goes in the washing machine. It comes in six sizes, from a 40 cm bed for cats and toy dogs up to a 100 cm bed for big dogs, in four colours.

Measure your pet curled up asleep and choose a bed a little wider than that. As a guide: XS 40 cm suits cats and toy dogs up to 3 kg, S 50 cm up to 5 kg, M 60 cm up to 9 kg, L 70 cm up to 17 kg, XL 80 cm up to 24 kg and XXL 100 cm up to 36 kg. If your pet stretches out, turns a lot before lying down, or is between sizes, go one size up.

Yes, some pets go straight in and others take a few days. Put the bed where they already like to sleep, with the opening facing the room, and drop a favourite toy or treat inside. Plenty of pets end up using it both ways, tucked under the hood on cold nights and lying on the rim when it is warm.

Shake or vacuum off loose fur, then put the whole bed in the washing machine on a cold wash on its own, with no bleach. Let it dry completely, then give the fur a shake and push the hood and rim back into shape.
